Diane's Kitchen ("we," "us") runs dianeskitchen.com. This policy covers what we collect, why, who else sees it and the choices you have. By using the site you agree to this policy.

The short version

  • We collect your email only if you give it to us.
  • We do not ask for, and do not want, any health, diet or medical information.
  • We collect basic visit data automatically, through cookies and similar tools.
  • Affiliate programs, Google Analytics, Pinterest and, later, ad partners may set cookies.
  • We never sell our email list.
  • We don't collect card numbers or bank details. Our checkout provider handles payments.
  • You can ask to see, fix or delete your data at any time.

A note about health information

Our recipes are general home cooking. We don't ask about your health, medications or blood sugar, and we don't need to know. Please don't email us medical details. If you have a health condition, talk to your own doctor or dietitian about what to eat.

What we collect

What When Why
Email address You request a free printable or join the newsletter To send the download and our emails
Name and email for recipe or meal-plan emails (optional) You choose to give it when you sign up To send the dinners you asked for and our weekly recipe email
Anything you write to us about a recipe You email us To reply and, if you spotted a mistake, to correct the page
Whatever you write to us You email us To reply
Name, email and billing details You buy a paid meal plan To deliver your order. Card numbers go to the payment processor, not us
IP address, approximate location, browser, device, operating system You visit Security, analytics and, later, ads
Pages viewed, time on page, referring site You visit To see which posts help readers
Server logs (date, time, requested page) You visit To keep the site running and secure

We keep it small. We use your email only to send what you signed up for. We do not share it with advertisers, and we do not sell it. You can ask us to change or delete it at any time.

  • Consent: for the email list and non-essential cookies, where required.
  • Contract: to deliver anything you buy, such as a meal plan.
  • Legitimate interests: to run, secure and improve the site, provided your rights don't outweigh those interests.
  • Legal obligation: for things like tax records on purchases.

Cookies and similar tools

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. We and our partners also use pixels, tags, scripts and local storage. They're used for:

  • Essential functions, like remembering your cookie choices
  • Analytics, to count visits and see how pages are used
  • Affiliate tracking, to credit us when you buy through our links
  • Advertising, if we add display ads later, to show and measure ads

You can block or delete cookies in your browser. Most of the site works fine without them. Where the law requires consent, we'll ask before setting non-essential cookies, and you can change your choice later.

Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand traffic in aggregate: which posts are read, roughly where readers are, and how they found us. GA4 uses cookies and processes data about your device and visit. Google states that GA4 does not log or store IP addresses. We keep analytics data for no more than 14 months. Read how Google uses data, or install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Advertising

Diane's Kitchen doesn't show display ads yet. If we add them, third-party ad partners and their advertisers may use cookies and similar technology to collect data about your visits to this and other websites, such as device information, pages visited and ad interactions, so they can show relevant ads and measure results. We'll update this section before ads go live.

Opt out of interest-based ads through:

Some links go to affiliate partners, currently Amazon (through the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program). When you click, the partner may set a cookie that records the referral, and we may earn a commission if you buy. If you buy from a partner, that company handles your information under its own privacy policy, not ours. We receive reports of referrals and commissions, not your account details. If we add other partners, we'll list them on our disclosure page.

Pinterest

Our pages include Pinterest's Save button. When the script loads, Pinterest may receive your IP address, browser information and the page URL, and may set cookies, even if you don't click it. If you're logged in, Pinterest may link this to your account. See the Pinterest privacy policy.

Embedded content

Videos or posts embedded from other sites behave as if you visited those sites, and they may collect data and set cookies.

Our email list

If you join, you'll get the recipe cards you asked for and then a weekly email with one new tested recipe, plus now and then an offer for our own meal plans. Our email provider may record opens and clicks. Every email includes an unsubscribe link and our postal address, in line with the CAN-SPAM Act. Unsubscribing takes effect right away.

Who we share data with

We do not sell, rent or trade our email list. We share personal information only:

  • with service providers for hosting, email, analytics, payment processing and security, who may use it only to provide services to us
  • with affiliate partners as described above
  • when required by law, or to protect the rights, property or safety of our readers, ourselves or others
  • with a buyer or successor if Diane's Kitchen is sold or merged, subject to this policy

International transfers

Our service providers may process data in the United States or other countries. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

Retention

Data How long we keep it
Email list Until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion
Your emails to us As long as needed to respond, then deleted on a regular schedule
Purchase records As long as tax and accounting laws require
Analytics Up to 14 months
Server logs A short period, for security

Security

We use HTTPS, limit account access and choose providers with good security practices. No method of transmission or storage is fully secure, so we can't promise absolute security.

Your rights in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland

You can ask to access, correct or delete your data, restrict or object to processing, receive a portable copy, and withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. We respond within one month.

Your rights in California and other US states

Under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA, California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, sell or share; to delete it; to correct it; to opt out of its sale or sharing; and to be free from discrimination for using these rights.

We don't sell personal information for money. Advertising and analytics cookies may count as "selling" or "sharing" under California law. To opt out, use the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link in our footer when it appears, or email us with that phrase as the subject. Where our tools can detect it, we treat a Global Privacy Control signal as an opt-out for that browser. We respond to verified requests within 45 days.

Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and other states with consumer privacy laws can make requests the same way.

Children

Diane's Kitchen is for adults. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (COPPA). If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
